If you’re not familiar with wine and wine labels it can be difficult to ascertain how the label indicates anything at all about the particular type of wine. In many cases it looks as though the only real information on the wine label is the brand and type of wine as if you’re supposed to know how it tastes before you buy it. Over time wine has become much more of a staple than an exquisite treat and the wine makers are responding to the masses by creating appealing labels for those who don’t understand the basic wine label. A wine bottle adorned with an attractive picture and unique designs are aimed at the novice wine drinker without label experience.

All wine labels must pass inspection by meeting specific criteria set in place by the government. Furthermore, wine labels have to meet these standards for each country that it is shipped to. Just because a wine label passes the U.S. government’s inspection doesn’t mean it will pass France’s.

One of the main requirements of a wine label includes the indication of which class of wine that particular bottle fits in. Wine classes are also carefully monitored and regulated by government agencies. The wine that most people consider appropriate for sharing with friends over a meal is known as table wine. The wine label will indicate whether it is a red table wine and so forth. Table wines are also considered to have the additional classes of light wine and sweet table wine. This information can be found on the wine label.

A citrus wine is indicated on the bottle, which means that it has been produced using ripened citrus fruits, but a fruit wine is made from any other fruit that excludes citrus or grapes. A bottle that indicates the wine is made from other agricultural products is actually made from vegetables. Retsina wine has been fermented with resin while imitation wine contains other synthetic materials that cover a wide range of possibilities. Sparkling wine gets its bubbles through a natural process while carbonated grape wines have been synthetically crafted with carbon dioxide.

Reading wine labels can be much more intensive, but if you can recognize the type of wine that is preferred by the majority and can understand how the wine is made you have a much better understanding of how the wine is likely to taste. Wine labels indicate the information, even if it seems hard to find.
